Job Details

Position Description: This is a full time, year-round position with full benefits and is responsible for supporting and reporting to the Building Engineer.  This person must be available to work Monday-Friday for 40 hours per week.  In addition, this person will need to be available periodically for on-call nights and weekends.

Job Details:

  1. Mows, trims, edges, fertilizes, and waters grounds.
  2. Weeds, prunes, mulches, fertilizes, and sprays trees, plants, and shrubbery; prepares soil for planting; seeds and re-sods lawn areas; plants trees, seedlings and shrubs.
  3. Maintains irrigation systems; Works with and schedules outsourced service providers as needed.
  4. Cleans and maintains grounds, walking the property daily.
  5. Inspects all hard scape including but not limited to driveways, walkways, parking lots, water fountain, and landscape lighting monthly and makes recommendations.
  6. Inspects and cleans/ clears exterior drains in loading dock, raingarden, and others on property weekly
  7. Performs snow removal and salting of facilities, access ways, and parking ramp.
  8. Cleans / maintains parking ramp and works with any outside vendors that may be required.
  9. Facilitates outsourcing as needed and as budget allows. Creates an in house team to get the job done in a timely manner, elevating safety for all as a priority
  10. Responds to questions and concerns from the Hope and MNTC staff related to grounds/building.
  11. Assists Building Engineer with building maintenance, projects, inspections, or other building related systems as needed.
  12. Assists property manager in building the annual grounds budget and responsible for spending within its means.
  13. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of operations by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team.
  14. Represents Hope Academy with integrity, and with a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff, co-workers, Building Engineer, and property management team.

Qualifications

  1. Education and Experience:
    • – High School diploma/GED.
    • – Minimum of one year of grounds keeping experience.
    • – Minimum of one year of general maintenance experience
  2. Required Knowledge and Skills of Groundworks (primary):
    • – Basic principles, equipment, methods, and materials used in grounds maintenance activities.
    • – Methods and techniques of planting, transplanting, cultivating, pruning, and maintaining a variety of lawns, ground cover, plants, shrubs, hedges, and trees.
    • – Maintaining a variety of landscaped areas.
  3. Required Knowledge and Skills of Building Maintenance (secondary):
    • – Performing general building maintenance work, individually or as a member of a team.
    • – Basic mechanical aptitude.
    • – HVAC experience helpful, but not required.
  4. Required Knowledge and Skills of position in general:
    • – Safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work.
    • – Communicating effectively in English in oral and written forms with a variety of individuals in person, over the phone, and via emails.
    • – Safely using and maintaining hand and power tools related to the work.
    • – Safely operating construction equipment and vehicles
    • – Good physical condition, able to lift a minimum of 50lbs regularly and 75lbs occasionally. Ability to perform following actions for the duration of an entire shift: walking, twisting, and turning, stooping, and bending, gripping, working with arms over one’s head, climbing ladders and working at heights.
    • – Ability to work independently and with a team, good interpersonal skills.
    • – Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
    • – Ability to positively interact with K-12 school students, teachers’ staff and administration, parents, and school guests.
    • – Ability to effectively prioritize and problem solve.
    • – Self-motivated, reliable, and able to direct others
    • – Willingness to learn and ready to accept new challenges.
    • – Willingness to obtain a boilers license a plus.
    • – Flexible and able to multi-task.
    • – Valid MN driver’s license.
    • – Basic computer familiarity.
