COVID-19 UPDATE: SCHOOL CLOSED STARTING TUESDAY (3/17)

Dear Hope Academy Community,

As we continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19, know that we are taking every precaution to ensure the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff. The Minneapolis Public Schools district has made the decision to close schools starting on Tuesday, March 17 for several weeks.

This means that Hope Academy will be closed starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020. 

Please note that this is different from the rest of the State of Minnesota. Our plan is to resume classes after Spring Break on Monday, April 6. 

Please note:

  •  – It is extremely important that your children attend school on Monday, March 16.
      Instructions and plans will be communicated with students that day and curricular materials will also be sent home.
  •  – Communication will be sent through our five usual channels.
      Hope Happenings, Hope Academy website, Facebook, email, and text messages.
  •  – School Days:
      Even though we will not be meeting in person, students will be responsible for completing work during the regular   days off from school (this does not include Spring Break).
  •  – Monitoring Your Child’s Learning:
      We suggest that parents develop a schedule for their child to work on classwork and assignments. Regular check-ins   with your child will help them to complete their tasks. Teachers will be checking in with students or parents from time  to time on their students’ progress.

To answer questions about COVID-19’s effect on our school, I have included a summary of decisions made by our Hope Academy Leadership team that will be in effect for this two-week period (March 17-March 26):

 

  • Learning Plans:

    High School (Grades 9-12): Learning will continue online. Teachers will teach classes at designated times and assign assignments through Microsoft TEAMS. Students are expected to complete and turn in these assignments online. If a student does not have a laptop or computer with internet access, please inform Shannon Chislom at the Upper School office immediately (612-540-2014 or shannonchislom@hopeschool.org).

    Middle School (Grades 6-8): Students will be required to complete packets with daily schoolwork. Packets will be sent home with students on Monday, 3/16. Packets will also be available for download on their classes’ Microsoft TEAMS.

    Lower School (Grades K-5):
    Students will be required to complete packets with daily schoolwork. Packets and books will be sent home with students on Monday, 3/16.

  • Food:

    We are working on a system to make breakfasts and lunches available for pick-up. Look for more information on this later.

  • Health Care & Emergency Responders childcare program:

    If you are a Health Care Worker or Emergency Responder in need of childcare, contact the Main Office with your employment info and needed childcare hours. Every effort will be made to provide childcare under the supervision of Hope Academy Teaching Assistants between 7:45 am – 5:30 pm for K-5 children who would normally be at Hope.

  • Childcare (Acts 4:32 Connections):

    Looking for childcare during the day? Or willing to provide childcare?
    Hope Academy is looking to connect families who need childcare with families that have the capacity to watch other kids during the day.If you are a family that would be willing to host another family’s school-age children during school days, or if you are a family that could use a host family for your school-age children, click here to sign-up! I understand that this is a difficult and uncertain time for our campus, state, nation, and world. It is our utmost goal to protect you – our students, faculty, and staff. I ask that you join me in prayer for all those affected by this disease and I encourage you to look to scripture for God’s reassurance. Remind yourself and your loved ones often of the words of Jesus, “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give peace to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27
