OUR MISSION, VISION, & VALUES

OUR MISSION

To foster hope in God within the inner-city neighborhoods of Minneapolis by providing youth with a remarkable, God-centered education.

OUR VISION

Believing that all children are created for God’s glory and endowed by him with an inalienable potential to acquire wisdom and knowledge, Hope Academy covenants with urban families to equip their children to become responsible, servant leaders of the 21st Century. Committed to the truth, discipline, and values of the gospel of Jesus Christ, Hope Academy pursues this aim by mobilizing educational, business, and community leaders towards the important goal of serving the children of Minneapolis with a remarkable education, permeated with a God-centered perspective. This inter-denominational school will seek to unleash kingdom citizens who work for justice, economic opportunity, racial harmony, hope for the family, and joy in the community.

OUR VALUES

The mission of Hope Academy is deeply rooted in the following core values:

Primary Values

GODWe believe God is the greatest treasure in the universe. Therefore, we provide an education to students where God is loved and glorified as central and supreme in life’s total experience. We are altogether dependent upon God for both the power to be good and do good.
THE BIBLEWe believe the Bible is the inspired, only infallible, authoritative word of God. Therefore, we thoughtfully integrate its teachings into every part of our community life and instruction.
THE KINGDOM OF GOD We believe God’s purpose for man is fulfilled in becoming a disciple of Christ. Therefore, we seek out teachers who are, above all, devoted to Christ, as they prepare a new generation of servant leaders who will reflect the values of the Kingdom of God to our city and our culture.
THE LOVE OF CHRISTWe believe the Golden Rule implies that we should work for the same educational opportunities for the children of the city that we desire for the children of the suburbs. Therefore, we joyfully share with the poor in our midst the resources God has entrusted to us. “This is true religion that our God accepts as pure and faultless: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” (James 1:27)

Secondary Values

THE WHOLE CHILD We believe God created children as body, mind, and spirit. Therefore we foster an educational program that addresses the needs of the whole child, including the spiritual dimension.
DISCIPLINE & ORDERWe believe a child’s education is enhanced by a disciplined and orderly environment. Therefore, our students will reflect order in their appearance, and we will vigorously promote the biblical virtues of kindness, politeness, respect, and self-discipline.
RECONCILIATION We believe God’s purpose is to reconcile all things in heaven and earth together under Christ. Therefore, we will seek to preserve the unity of the spirit and create a school community that reflects the denominational, cultural, racial, and economic harmony which the Lord desires for the body of Christ.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCEWe believe demonstrated academic achievement is a true basis for community leadership and gaining access to opportunity. Therefore we regularly test for high standards of academic achievement. We also recruit outstanding teachers and use textbooks of the highest quality. Homework at the appropriate level is a mandatory requirement, and we implement a longer school year for students in grades K-8, and a longer school day for students for whom it is deemed necessary.
CLASSICAL APPROACHWe believe rebuilding a foundation of righteousness includes retrieving the lost tools of education. Our classical curriculum includes grammar (k-5), logic (6-9), and rhetoric (10-12). We seek to incorporate the very best of classical curriculum and instruction, including Latin, ancient and medieval history, and logic and rhetoric.
PARTNERSHIPWe believe God has given parents the primary responsibility for the education of their children. Therefore, we will value parents as genuine partners in their children’s education, and we will actively seek to strengthen their involvement in the school wherever possible.
THE CITYWe believe the Bible instructs us to “seek the peace and prosperity of the city.” (Jeremiah 29:7) Therefore, Hope Academy will become a means of blessing and renewing the inner-city of Minneapolis and beyond, to the cities of our world.
